Delaney’s Stake Conference talk
Hello, brothers and sisters, my name is Delaney Dilsaver, and I am 10 years old. I am from the Kokomo Ward, and I was asked to give a testimony on how Come Follow Me has blessed our family. Last year, my mom was asked to give a talk in Stake Conference on Come Follow Me. Abruptly, our family went from very little Come Follow Me to having Come Follow Me multiple times a week……….Turns out speaking in stake conference is very motivating! Now it’s been a whole year and we’ve had Come Follow Me in all different kinds of places. In the summer we like to have it outside. One time after we had collected sticks around our house, we had it in the back of our truck under the stars! Come Follow Me has really improved my knowledge of the gospel.
President Nelson said that when we do Come Follow Me the influence of the adversary in your life and in your home will decrease. I asked my family members what they thought the biggest difference was in our home since having Come Follow Me…..most of them said that there was less contention and fighting in our home, and more of the spirit. That has been a blessing of Come Follow Me in our home.
I asked my mom what she thought was different in our house since doing Come Follow Me and she brought up this scripture in 2 Nephi 25:26: “We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, and we preach of Christ that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.” Mom said it is a way each day we get to talk about Jesus and bring Him into our home.
Come Follow Me has helped me learn more about Jesus Christ. I’ve learned more about the Savior’s divine, holy, and sacred power. It also helped me learn about how merciful and good the Savior is. I remember learning about the Lord delivering Moses and his people. I do not remember who taught it, but I just remember the feeling. The feeling that the Lord is merciful, and he will deliver us. I also remember learning about being a child of God. I am a child of God. You are a child of God. I know I belong here, because of that. We are all children of God, and we are all trying to return to Heaven someday.
One night we had a lesson on bringing Israel back together like missionary work. I thought about that. A few weeks later, we had a ward activity, the trunk or treat. I decided to invite a few of my friends to this activity. They did not come, but I was doing my part to help gather Israel. All that matters is that I tried. I promise you that if try to do Come Follow Me you too will be blessed.
President Nelson promised that when you do Come Follow Me, “Your children will be excited to learn and to live the Savior’s teachings.” Since we’ve started having Come Follow Me more often I think a lot more about church stuff than I used to. I try harder to do what is right, because now I know what to do. Before I didn’t always know why I needed to do certain things or how to do what is right, but since I am reminded of it all the time, and I am learning new things every night, it makes it easier for me to make better decisions. So having Come Follow Me at home makes a big difference to me.
I encourage all of you primary kids out there to try to have Come Follow Me at home! If you offer to do the lesson, using what you learned at church that day, your family will feel more motivated to help and participate in your lesson. As for you adults, once your kids know you are determined to do Come Follow Me they will really try to be good. At first it’s a rocky start, but as you progress you will have great success. You can do it!
I testify that if you do Come Follow Me you will be blessed. You will have a deeper understanding of the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and even Jesus Christ himself, like I have. I testify that this church is true, that this is truly the restored church, that we are sons and daughters of God, and that Prophet Russell M. Nelson is the prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ amen.
