Patriarchal blessings and how you spend your time

I wanted to tell you guys about this cool personal revelation I got after my prayer today. I had the thought that I should use my patriarchal blessing to figure out how I should best use my time. It’s so cool you should try it! I took each piece of my patriarchal blessing and tried to think of something I could do each day to fulfill it, and kind of made it “to do” style. It was really cool and I could see themes of what should be the most important in my day!

I tried to make these more broad so it’s not so personal and appropriate to share, so here is the list I came up with after reading mine:

After I made this list I was filled with so much hope. How I should be spending my time is something that has been on my mind a lot and this was such specific, personal direction. After I made this list, I had some specific ideas of things I could do to help others. The next day I acted on those things and I just felt so happy at the end of the day! The things I did weren’t things I necessarily would have picked for that day, but you know what, it was a lot better than what I would have planned. And it made me happier.

I love this quote from President Benson that President Nelson used in his most recent Conference talk on overcoming the world: “Men and women who turn their lives over to God will discover that He can make a lot more out of their lives than they can. He will deepen their joys, expand their vision, quicken their minds, … lift their spirits, multiply their blessings, increase their opportunities, comfort their souls, raise up friends, and pour out peace.”

I love believing in a God who is pouring out direction to me as fast as I’m willing to receive it! We’re taught in the scriptures, “upon my handmaids will I pour out my spirit” (Joel 2:28-29). He’s providing me with direction in Conference, in the scriptures, and provides specific, personal direction in my patriarchal blessing to make me happy and whole. What a blessing it is!
